What does an Upwork proposal tool actually do?
An Upwork proposal tool drafts the cover letter you send with an application, usually alongside some assessment of whether the job is worth applying for. They differ mainly in where they run, what they read about you before writing, and whether they will apply on your behalf.
Most comparisons of these tools are written by whoever is selling one of them, which makes them hard to use. This one is written by us, so treat it accordingly — but every number here came off the other products' own pricing pages, it says when it was checked, and where a rival does something we do not, it says that too.

Decide about automation
If you want software applying to jobs without you reading each one, that narrows it immediately. Upwex does it; we do not.

Decide how much you need beyond proposals
If Upwork proposals are the whole job, a focused extension is enough. If you also need resumes, Fiverr gigs or a profile you reuse, that is a different tool.

Where BidPilotPro fits
BidPilotPro is a Chrome extension for Upwork and Freelancer.com. Its pitch is closest to ours of the three: it automatically matches your best past work to each job rather than writing from a blank prompt, which is the same instinct behind our personas and project matching.
It has a free plan with 5 credits, and a Pro plan at $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly at $204. Pro is advertised as unlimited usage, which is a genuinely different pricing model from ours and Upwex's — both of us meter by credits.
If you want one thing, cheaply, that lives inside Upwork and Freelancer and writes from your past work, it is a reasonable choice and the free tier is more generous than ours. What it does not do is the rest of the surface: no Fiverr gigs, no resumes, no LinkedIn or cold email.
When Upwex is the better choice
If you want a tool that applies to jobs for you, buy Upwex Max. Its auto-bidding scanner runs around the clock, scans new listings and applies with your AI proposal, with configurable rules and a connects-aware cap. We have nothing equivalent and are not building one.
That is a real strategic difference rather than a missing feature. Our position is that a proposal a human has not read is a proposal that reads like it, and that the freelancers winning work on Upwork are the ones sending fewer, better-targeted applications. You may reasonably disagree — plenty of people run volume strategies and make them pay.
Upwex is also the only one of the three with CRM sync. If your Upwork conversations need to land in Pipedrive or HubSpot because someone else in your business works the pipeline, that is not a small convenience, and neither we nor BidPilotPro offer it.
When Prozilio is the better choice
If Upwork proposals are the entire job, we are more tool than you need. The case for us is that the profile you build gets reused.
The same skills, projects and work history that write an Upwork proposal also write a Fiverr gig inside Fiverr's character limits, a freelance resume you can share as a link or export as a PDF, and pitches for Freelancer, PeoplePerHour, LinkedIn and cold email. Update a project once and every one of those is current. Neither of the others covers that ground.
The second difference is the free job scorer, which needs no signup and no extension. It rates any job out of ten from five weighted factors — hire rate, competition, client history, interviews in progress and invites sent — and it is deterministic arithmetic rather than a model, so it returns instantly and gives the same answer twice. You can use it without ever creating an account, which makes it easy to check our judgement before trusting anything else we say.
What all three have in common
None of us writes a good proposal from an empty profile. Every one of these tools produces better output the more real history you give it, and generic output when you give it nothing.
None of us can tell you which piece of your own experience is the most persuasive for a given client. That judgement is the part that actually wins work, and it stays yours.
And all three are metered. Credits, usage caps or tiers, but nothing here is genuinely unlimited at the bottom of the pricing page — so the honest question is not which is cheapest per month but which is cheapest at the volume you actually send.
Questions about choosing a tool
- Is this comparison biased?
- We make one of the three products, so yes, treat it that way. What we can offer instead of neutrality is checkability: every rival figure came off their own pricing page on a stated date, both are linked, and where they do something we do not, the page says so.
- Which is cheapest?
- BidPilotPro has the most generous free plan at 5 credits, and its $20 Pro tier is advertised as unlimited. Our entry tier is $8 for 40 credits and Upwex's is $9.99 for 100. Which works out cheapest depends entirely on your volume.
- Can I use more than one?
- Yes, and some people do — a scoring tool inside Upwork alongside a profile-based writer. They are browser extensions and a web app; nothing conflicts.
- Do any of them submit proposals automatically?
- Upwex does, on its Max tier. BidPilotPro and Prozilio do not; both draft for you to review and submit yourself.
- How current is this page?
