What is a freelance persona?

A persona is one version of your professional self — backend engineer, say, against technical consultant. Each reorders the same underlying skills, work history and projects, so a proposal written from it leads with the experience that fits, without you keeping two separate profiles in sync.

Most freelancers take more than one kind of work, and end up with one profile that tries to cover all of it. The result reads as a list rather than a pitch: a client hiring for a Shopify migration has to scroll past your data-engineering work to find the part that matters to them.

How do personas work?

  1. 1

    Import your history once

Upload a CV and Prozilio extracts your skills, work history, education and projects into one profile.

  2. 2

    Cut it into personas

Each persona draws on the same profile but foregrounds a different slice of it — and Prozilio can draft the first one for you.

  3. 3

    Pitch from the right one

Pick the persona when you write a proposal, gig or resume, and the draft leads with that experience.

Why not just keep two profiles?

Because they drift. The moment you finish a project, you add it to whichever profile you were last working in, and three months later the two disagree about what you have done.

A persona is a view, not a copy. Add a project once and every persona that should reference it can. Change a job title and it changes everywhere. The thing you maintain is your history; the personas are how it gets read.

This is also why a persona is not a template. It holds no fixed sentences — the writing is generated each time from whatever is in your profile now.

How many personas is the right number

Fewer than people expect. Two is usually right: the work you mostly do, and the work you want more of.

The useful test is whether a persona changes which project you would lead with. If two personas would open a proposal with the same case study, they are one persona with two names, and splitting them only gives you more to keep current.

Every plan includes several and the higher tiers include more; the current allowance is on the pricing page, because it is a per-plan setting and a number written here would go stale. If you are hitting the ceiling, it is usually worth asking whether some of those personas are really the same pitch.

Questions about personas

Do I have to write a persona myself?
No. Prozilio drafts your first one from the profile you import, picking the skills and projects that hang together. You edit it from there.
Does a persona change the writing style?
It changes what the draft is written from — which skills, which projects, which parts of your work history. Tone is a separate setting you choose per proposal.
How many do I get?
Several on every plan, and more on the higher tiers — see the pricing page for the current allowance. The 14-day trial runs on the Full-Time plan.
Can a project belong to more than one persona?
Yes. Projects live on your profile, and any persona that is relevant to can reference them.
