What does the profile import do?
It reads a CV or exported LinkedIn PDF and extracts your skills, work history, education and projects into a structured profile. That profile is what every proposal, gig description and resume is later written from, so the import is the one piece of typing you do not have to repeat.
Every tool that writes for you needs to know something about you first, and almost all of them open with an empty form. Filling it in is half an hour of retyping a document you already have, which is where most people stop.
How does the import work?
- 1
Upload a CV or LinkedIn PDF
Any recent CV works. If you would rather start from LinkedIn, use its own "Save to PDF" export and upload that.
- 2
Check what was extracted
Skills, work history, education and projects come back as editable fields. Nothing is saved until you accept it.
- 3
Fill the gaps that matter
A CV rarely lists the outcome of a project. Adding that is what makes the proposals written from it specific.
What a CV leaves out, and why it matters here
A CV is written to survive a skim. It lists what you worked on, rarely what changed because you did.
That gap is the single biggest difference between a proposal that reads as generic and one that does not. "Rebuilt the checkout in React" is a line from a CV. "Rebuilt the checkout in React and ported the legacy coupon rules rather than reimplementing them, because that is where the same migration usually goes wrong" is a proposal opening.
So after the import, the field worth going back to is the project description. Two sentences about what was hard is worth more than five more bullet points about the stack.
What happens to the file
It is read to extract the fields above, and what you keep is the structured profile rather than the document. You can edit or delete any of it afterwards from your profile.
The extracted profile is only ever used to write your own drafts. It is not shared with other users and not used to write anyone else's proposals.
Questions about importing a profile
- Do I have to import anything?
- No. You can type your profile in directly. The import exists because most people already have the same information in a CV.
- Can I import from LinkedIn?
- Yes, via LinkedIn's own "Save to PDF" export. Upload that file the same way you would a CV.
- What if the extraction gets something wrong?
- Every field comes back editable before anything is saved, and you can change it later from your profile at any time.
- What happens to my profile after import?
- It becomes the source every persona draws on, and every proposal, gig description and resume is written from.
